A UNESCO World Heritage Site - internationally important for its unique prehistoric landscape
The Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site is internationally important for its outstanding prehistoric monuments. Stonehenge is the most architecturally sophisticated prehistoric stone circle in the world, while Avebury is the largest. Around them lie numerous other monuments and sites, which demonstrate over 2,000 years of continuous use. Together they form a unique prehistoric landscape.

This map is ideal for walkers and others wishing to explore the fascinating landscape of the two areas of the World Heritage Site. The map uses an Ordnance Survey 1:10,000 base and draws upon information from the English Heritage Archive and recent archaeological investigations. Guidebook: Stonehenge - Buy Online - International Delivery

Stonehenge is one of the best-known ancient monuments in the world and its global importance is reflected in its World Heritage Site status. Although its exact purpose remains a mystery, this magnificent monument was created in the Neolithic period with banks, ditches and iconic standing stones aligned to mark the passage of the sun and the changing seasons at the solstices.
This comprehensively revised and superbly illustrated guidebook reflects the recent changes to the site and its surrounding landscape and takes account of the latest research and analysis. It discusses the key questions of when, how and why Stonehenge may have been built, and who might have built it.
The guidebook includes an innovative and newly commissioned timeline that places Stonehenge and the surrounding monuments in historical context, and the site and landscape are explored through brand new maps, diagrams, photographs and reconstruction drawings.

Stonehenge Ales Brands

EYE-OPENER

Brewed Jun-Jul-Aug
Brewed at OG 1044 and ABV 4.5%. Eye-Opener is a beautiful golden, dry and smooth premium bitter with a hint of toffee, which compliments the citrusy and spicy flavours. A touch of magic and a hint of mystery is left on the palate.

BODYLINE

Brewed at OG 1042 and ABV 4.3%. Like the cricketer's throw this beer is brewed to "hit" the body - not hard but softly and pleasantly. It will warm up your body with its unique and complex dark malt composition and it will leave your taste buds with a lingering bitter aftertaste.

RUDOLPH

Brewed Dec
Brewed at OG 1048 and ABV 5.0%. The dark amber colour and body derived from crystal malt combined with the Goldings aroma hops gives the beer just the right warmth and flavour - explicitly Santa's choice.

OLD SMOKEY

Brewed Jan-Feb
Brewed at OG 1048 and ABV 5.0%. A delightful, warming, dark porter type ale, with a roasted malt taste and a hint of liquorice surrounding a developing bitter flavour. Very appealing to the eye.

DANISH DYNAMITE

Brewed at OG 1048 and ABV 5.0%. A light golden, dry, strong ale, slightly fruity with a well balanced hop flavour and bitterness - simply a Top Class Beer which has won several major beer festivals

SIGN OF SPRING

Brewed Mar-Apr-May
Brewed at OG 1044 and ABV 4.6%. A light green, incredibly smooth and very drinkable beer, rich in both malt and hop aroma. Specially brewed for springtime (beer) lovers.

GREAT DANE

Cask Conditioned Lager
Brewed Jun-Jul
Traditionally brewed at OG 1044 and ABV 4.6%, fermented and "lagered" at low, controlled temperatures. Only the finest ingredients of malt, lager hops, lager yeast and brewing water are used. It is a very high quality beer without any brewing adjuncts at all. The result is a clean, crisp and refreshing Real Premium Lager with a nice bitter aftertaste that lingers on.

GREAT BUSTARD

At OG 1046 and ABV 4.8%, the beer is traditionally brewed using only the finest quality of water, barley and rye malts, whole hops and the brewery's own top-fermenting yeast. The colour is deep amber with a red hue derived from the Head Brewer's unique composition of ingredients. The taste is deliciously fruity and malty with a lingering bitter aftertaste.
This fine beer is brewed to celebrate the approval in November 2003 for the reintroduction of the Great Bustard bird onto the Salisbury Plain.
Great Bustard: an Award Winning Ale

HEEL STONE

Brewed at OG 1042 and ABV 4.3%. A crisp clean, refreshing bitter, deep amber in colour, well balanced with a fruity blackcurrant nose. Bitter flavour. Our brewer's recipe, which proves he certainly deserved his Brewer's Certificate.

Stonehenge Ales Brands

SPIRE ALE

Brewed at OG 1037 and ABV 3.8%. A golden, hoppy beer made with Maris Otter Pale Ale malt, First Gold hops for bitterness and for aroma, the new hop, Willamette is adding a tempting nose to this very palatable golden brew.

PIGSWILL

Brewed at OG 1040 and ABV 4.0%. A full bodied beer, not so bitter, but rich in hop aroma which gives the beer a delightful aftertaste. The warm amber colour is very appealing to the eye.

Stonehenge Ales

Our home, The Old Mill, in Netheravon is where all the magic takes place.

The 'mill' started life in 1914 as an electricity generator for the new airfield, using waterpower from the River Avon.
The power from the river never managed to generate electricity to the extent needed at the local airfield, hence diesel generators were installed to run the turbines. As this proved not to be cost effective, the power station was soon closed down. The years in between power station and brewery the building was put into many different uses. For a while it served as village hall hosting dances and boxing matches. Also a fibre glass factory was in operation. For long periods the towering old mill was boarded up and only the ghost was rummaging the stairs and corridors.

In 1984 Tony Bunce started the brewery at The Old Mill. Danish Master Brewer Stig Anker Andersen (seen on the left) who took up the challenge (very successfully) of brewing good English beer, took over the business in 1993

Stonehenge Model Kit

 Stonehenge model kit 1:135
Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire, about 3.2 kilometres (2.0 mi) west of Amesbury and 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) north of Salisbury. One of the most famous sites in the world, Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones. Model your own Stonehenge in 1:135 scale with real ceramic stones with this Aedes Ars kit. The materials used look like the original materials and the pieces' quality is based on the company's production processes. The kit is presented with all the necessary material to model that ancient famous stone construction. The kit contents a Wood base, a cardboard base, graphical instructions based on a photographic sequence, 125 ceramic pieces, glue and synthetic grass and marble sand for model decorations. For an accurate result it is recommended to smooth down some of the different pieces with sandpaper, achieving a more attractive and realistic result.
